Mary Ellen Shorten, Rogers, Arkansas

Mary Ellen Shorten has lived on and off in the Rogers area since 1981, but was born
and raised in Detroit, Michigan, where she married for the first time and had
four boys…..no girls.

In her other life…..before retirement in 1987, Mary Ellen was working as an engineer.
She also worked in graffic arts, and drafting, for the old AT&T Company…..before
the breakup. Working for "Ma Bell" required a few transfers around the country, from
Detroit to Chicago, to San Francisco, to Kansas City, and finally to Rogers and
retirement.

Mary Ellen is finally pursuing her other areas of interest as a pottery maker, a stained
glass artist, a computer geek, and a quilter. Her early art training was in the commercial
art field, and so she now enjoys this early occupation in her retirement years.

Mary Ellen was teaching stained glass classes at the War Eagle Seminar for a few
years, but her real love is pottery. She makes kitchen utensils, such as chicken
cookers, large bowls, and various other types of dishes, under the tutelage of master
potter, Jim Young, of Van Hollow Pottery.
