Marlo Cobb Saucedo achieved a 4-year summer scholarship to the Museum of Fine
Arts Houston’s Glassell Junior School, later pursuing unrelated degrees and activity
including a B.A. from Davidson College and an M.B.A. from U.T. Austin and various
professional positions before pursuing art.

Her labor-intensive work includes drawings entirely of text and acrylic paintings done in
the pointillism technique with 1,000 to 3,500 brightly painted squares forming
photo-realistic images if seen from a distance. Words and paragraphs are sometimes
hidden within the paintings, visible only within inches. A recurring theme in Marlo’s work
involves what is seen and unseen at various distances from the piece, as we all have
first impressions that with time melt into more realistic views of places and people.

Marlo’s cityscapes and portraits have been actively commissioned since she began
painting in 1999. They have been featured in Houston in the City Gallery at Wells Fargo
Plaza, the “Living Art” Gallery at the Aquarium Design Group, the Rotunda Gallery at St.
Luke’s United Methodist Church, as part of ArtHouston 2002 (Blossom Street Gallery), in
ArtView’s group exhibits downtown, at Diverse Works Art Space and Lawndale Art
Center, and at Art League Houston's 2003 Open Show. New work was displayed in
2004 and 2006 at Mind Puddles Creative Incubator. Marlo was awarded a grant from the
Cultural Arts Council of Houston/Harris County in 2005. She has recently been awarded
a scholarship for the summer of 2007 to attend the Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts
in Gatlinburg, Tennessee.
