Statement

"My focus is making visual art, hoping to motivate one to think through an awareness of our planet. It is my intent for
the viewer to feel physically and emotionally embraced as a parent would a child, and a human being would a
human being. I am an employee of humanity through my creative mind, demonstrating my deep conviction and
respect for our natural environment, through the sensitive language of visual art."

Biography

Whiteside earned a BFA in studio art from the University of Arkansas. Whiteside has honed her skills by continuing
to study color, line and texture. The landscape has been the primary inspiration and subject matter of her paintings.
Whiteside focuses on times of day that are often dark and quiet, guiding the viewer to a peaceful acceptance of
mystery. She holds the door open for the infinity of the human mind with regard to her interests as subjects
in her paintings. Abstraction of the landscape and focus on color has resulted in clean lines and pure form in works
she presents.

Detail:
Whiteside, LaDawna 1970-, American painter; b. Oklahoma. Formal training, The University of Arkansas, Little
Rock, 1996-2000, she expresses serenity through color in such works as, Peace and Quiet, Morning Fog, Cricket
Quartet at Dark (c. 2000 Private Collections) She was born in Oklahoma and grew up in Arkansas, and
remembers painting as a child. Her exposure to art began in public Junior High and High School. She continues to
use methods and techniques from her early years of training. She attended formal training at the University of
Arkansas Department of Art gaining a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in studio art. Whiteside now paints in her
Fayetteville, Arkansas studio, life and landscapes as well as abstract oils on various surfaces. She is best known
for her quiet night views. Whiteside's influences include Kandinsky's musically driven works, as well as Arkansas,
the natural state where she resides. Folk/self taught artists are also among influences in her life as an Arkansas
painter for the pure, naive language they eloquently speak through art making. She is an advocate of getting an
education due to her own invaluable experiences while studying art. Attaining her art education has helped bring
her to a place in her life as an art maker, with goals of continuing to give visual works of gratitude back to the art
community she passionately respects for making a place where she can be her authentic self.
