Chris Dahl moved here from Muskego Wisconsin thirteen years ago after her marriage to Ken. After getting her new home situated she became restless and decided to take a class through the BEEP program. Chris took two lessons from a local weaver, Laura Hairston and discovered a new hobby. She then went to the local libraries, many book stores and the web to search out more information on basket weaving. She was one of the original members of the Arkansas Basket Weavers Guild that was formed in 1996. She served as Secretary, Treasurer and President for three years. At present she is the Newsletter Editor for the Guild. She takes pride in implementing the making of baskets made by Guild members and given to recipients of a new home through Habitat for Humanity in Benton and Washington County. Over the past several years over 30 baskets have been made and given to these families. Chris’s favorite baskets to make are Antler Baskets, she says these are challenging as you have to study the curvature of the antler first, but she likes to make all kinds of baskets that will give her some challenge. Three years ago she began teaching and inspiring others to weave. Besides the love of making baskets she also embroiderers, crochets’ and knits many items for friends, family and her two grandsons. |
