While growing up on a farm in southwester Oklahoma, Charles developed a special interest in birds and nature. At 16 his family moved to San Diego. Working in a cabinet shop he developed an admiration for woods and their luster and grain patterns. Charles had always had in mind a place of quieter and simpler times, a land of natural beauty with seasonal changes. In 1975 he moved NWA fulfilling his dreams. After reading an article about Gilbert Maggioni and Granger McKoy’s carvings of delicate “wooden birds that fly”, Charles purchased Bruce Burk’s “Game Bird Carving” book. However he did not begin serious carving cases and some specific instruction from Janet Cordell until 1998. Charles enjoys all types of carving. You will find natural finished woods incorporated in many of his pieces. His works include stylized birds and animals, as well as deep relief, highly detailed pieces. E-mail: Web Site: |
