Drawing was a big part of my childhood. Later, as a teenager, I began painting and illustrating with pen and ink. Finally, in the summer of 2006, I began throwing pots. I took classes off and on for a couple of years. I then purchased two kilns, a wheel and set up a studio at my house.
Poor Richard's Art is my first effort to promote my pottery. I enjoy creating uncommon pieces. What I like the most, is always challenging myself and not being afraid to fail. By doing this, I've developed as a potter. I also mix my own glazes, using the same philosophy as I do in throwing. Many of my most popular items are my hummingbird feeders and pottery made with imprints of real leaves.
I recently read an article about an ancient culture. What was interesting to me, was not much was known about this culture - except their pottery. As I get older, I realize how short life is and it intrigues me to think that long after I'm gone, there's a chance my pottery will still be here.
I hope you enjoy my pottery as much as I do creating it.
